Central Asian Culture

I'll admit that here in wildly diverse Utah we don't have to ton of easy opportunities to absorb Kaz culture, but this week we had a wonderful chance to learn about Central Asian music and dance at a Red Butte Gardens family concert. Judging by my mortifyingly enthusiastic face in this photo, we must have had a really good time. The girls in the picture are wearing costumes from Uzbekistan, but we won't quibble over details since Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan are neighbors - cultural beggars can't be choosers!

The concert was great, the dancers were delightful, and a good time was had by all. Most of us agreed that the best part was the sparkly Uzbek outfits in this picture, although I think that the highlight for Ben (besides feeding the goldfish in the pond) was playing the spoons from Turkey. Who can say no to a children's Turkish spoon circle? Not my child!
