Nez has had tummy trouble over the past month and after a few rounds of medication and vet visits the most likely culprit was stomach cancer. Rather than watching her decline, we decided to put her to sleep while her quality of life was still good. It was not an easy decision, but I think it was the right one.
We'll miss our old dog. She did a bang-up job raising two boys and was well on her way to being Sasha's best friend. The family is coping pretty well with her loss... it's a hard day but we knew that cancer was likely so we've been prepping the kids for the possibility of losing Nez. We plan to have a collar-burying ceremony this week in memorial.

God speed, Nez!
It is in absence that we often realize the most cherished characteristics of our good friends.
That makes me so sad. RIP Nez.

Oh, you guys! I'm so sorry to hear this :-( We know what a tough decision that can be, and you've had Nez a long time. We'll be praying for all of you!

I am so sorry. We had to put down a family dog earlier this year and it was one of the most difficult things I have had to do.
You all are in my prayers.

Sorry to hear this latest news. I certainly know what a hole their passing leaves.

I'm so sorry! This makes me sad (and you know how I feel about animals). I will always remember how in your Maryland days she used to try to pee on me (pretty much only on me - it was a special bond we shared) and how in later years we occasionally (accidentally on my part) shared a plate of food. Your home won't seem the same without her.
Oh no! I'm so sorry to hear that! My prayers are with you guys. I loved getting to know Nez.
I too had to put my dog down and it is such a heard decision. I'm sure it was for the best and Nez will be missed.
So sad!
Lou Ann & Lexie too
Oh, I'm so sorry you guys. It's so hard to lose a beloved member of the family.
We lost our St. Bernard over a year ago, and while not often, I still absentmindedly do things as if she were still around.
I know the loss is hard. The silver lining is that she's not in pain any more. My condolences to all of you!
