Kaz Day -1

We leave for the airport in just a couple of hours and for our negative-one day in Kazakhstan (we'll arrive at around 2 am tomorrow morning) I thought I'd share my first memory verse for Kaz, Isaiah 55:8-11
"For my thoughts are not your thoughts,
neither are your ways my ways,"
declares the LORD.

"As the heavens are higher than the earth,
so are my ways higher than your ways
and my thoughts than your thoughts.

As the rain and the snow
come down from heaven,
and do not return to it
without watering the earth
and making it bud and flourish,
so that it yields seed for the sower and bread for the eater,

so is my word that goes out from my mouth:
It will not return to me empty,
but will accomplish what I desire
and achieve the purpose for which I sent it."
We know that our adventure is far from over just because we're finally getting on the plane we've been waiting a year to board! We will have cultural and procedural challenges, we'll have to cope with fatigue and jetlag, and then there's the adventure of becoming Mom and Dad to a little girl who can't remember a parent's love. But we trust that God's ways are far above our own, even when we don't quite understand how all of this is going to work out. God's love and word never return void.

Safe travels! Can't wait to hear you made it safely to the other side.

I remember the whole travel and first couple days were likened to a conveyor belt. You're just dumped on and go wherever the belt goes. Turn here, turn there, slide here, and finally you get dumped somewhere. A new person is there to give you a quick dust off and haul you to somewhere else. You don't ask questions, you don't try to really understand. You just ride the conveyor belt until the final destination is reached, the first goal is met, and sleep catches up. A hot shower and fulfilling food go a long way too. :-) After that, it's all a piece of cake.

All very exciting indeed. I remember being so tired as I boarded the plane and to think our journey hadn't even started. But all of it melts away once you meet your child. I'm so excited to follow along. Safe travels and God speed.
