Creative Outlets

Arts and crafts + friends = my ideal afternoon.

This week, my fabulous friends and I took a quickie glass blowing lesson up at Thanksgiving Point and had such a great time creating our own fabulous works of art (that is, things that sit around and collect dust but you can't bear to get rid of because you are so dang proud of them because you made them yourself).  It was great to get out of the house (and cubicle) and do something creative!
Step 1 - survey other peoples' projects to get ideas about colors and styles
Step 2 - get a little bit of glass on the rolly tube (official name) and try to keep it centered
Step 3 - get more glass and some color chips on the rolly tube, flatten it out, and start pinching
Step 4 - pinch, pinch, pinch
Step 5 - keep pinching
Step 6 - pinch and pull
Step 7 - really pull
Step 8 - curl stem and let it cool
Step 9 - enjoy!

You're so good at these things, Jamie. I think I would have been too chicken to try such a thing!

That is a pretty gorgeous dust-catcher, if indeed you're going to call it that! ;-)
