Tough Stuff

There is no doubt in my mind or in my heart that I am extravagantly blessed; our family is extravagantly blessed.  And that's true in the fun times and it's true in the hard times.  I believe that my God is the God of purpose and that he knows and cares for and about us personally, like I do for my kids, times a million.  And I believe that his plans are so far above mine that I only have, can only withstand an occasional glimmer of his incredible purposes.

Right now is one of the hard times.

We learned right before Thanksgiving that the cancer that Sharon, Steve's mom, has been fighting for five amazing years has metastasized to her brain in 5 places.  She finished a round of aggressive radiation today and it's been really tough on her body.  She has fought hard, and she is tired.

Steve, Sam, and Ben flew out today to be with her and treasure all the time with Gramma that they can get.

We pray for healing.  We pray for the radiation to be effective.  We pray for 5, 10, 15 more years with Sharon.  We pray for her energy and mental faculties to return.

But more than anything, we pray Psalm 119.  We prayed it a month ago when we were celebrating, and we pray it now as we grieve.  Because God is always good.  And although Gramma may not be dancing long here on this earth (and the same is true for each of us!), our hearts rejoice even through our tears in the knowledge that she'll dance forever with Jesus.
With your very own hands you formed me;
    now breathe your wisdom over me so I can understand you.

When they see me waiting, expecting your Word,
    those who fear you will take heart and be glad.

I can see now, God, that your decisions are right;
    your testing has taught me what's true and right.

Oh, love me—and right now!—hold me tight!
    just the way you promised.

Now comfort me so I can live, really live;
    your revelation is the tune I dance to.
