There is little in life as wholly pleasant as a gingerbread house. Fun to assemble, fun to decorate, cute sitting out on the table, and very pleasant to destroy. And I am a
huge fan of the $8 gingerbread house kit. Sheer magic, no baking, and the gingerbread isn't "too spicy" (this is Sam's ever-present complaint about any gingerbread that I make).

Ben supervised decoration and did a bang-up job. Admittedly, the candy that came with this year's kit left a little to be desired (SweetTarts?! Who decorates a gingerbread house with SweetTarts?), so he centered his decorating strategy on icing and candy canes. I think that such focus really paid off, since it enabled him to move from decoration phase to the consumption phase with marked swiftness.

We went from foundation to house and back to foundation this year in 24 hours flat - that's got to be some kind of record! Gingerbread is part of a balanced breakfast, lunch, dinner, and snack, right?

It's a great diet. It's right up there with my m&m's and coffee consumption :)
