It's the party I've been planning for a year - a 1960's cocktail party! It was supposed to be my big 3-0 bash, but somehow throwing a party 3 weeks after returning home with a new child after 60 days in Kazakhstan didn't sound so fun. So the big party waited for my 31st birthday and I have to say, I think we did it right! We did a lot of research to produce an on-theme menu, outfits, decor, and bar offerings. Shockingly, Steve didn't already have a satin smoking jacket in his closet, so that was the first essential element to purchase. Once you've committed to a theme far enough to dress like Hugh Hefner, the rest comes naturally...
I was particularly proud of our transformed living room

We learned that people in the 60's ate truly bizarre fare - and fortunately it was mostly within our realm of culinary aptitude. The menu included fluffernutter sandwiches on Wonder Bread, Swedish meatballs in "sauce" (a 50-50 mix of grape jelly and Heinz chili sauce. Sounds terrifying, but tastes surprisingly good), pigs in a blanket, a cheese ball, a "hedgehog" (pineapple and cheese cubes stuck onto an orange with frilly toothpicks), Lipton Onion Soup Mix dip and ruffle chips, Chex mix, and salted nuts.
Say, "groovy!"

Happy Birthday to me!

Happy 30th & 31st Birthdays Jamie!!!Now that's how to throw a party! And you looked fabulous, I might add.
ReplyDeleteI'm glad you all had a great time but did you play Twister? I'm pretty sure that was part of fun at a couple of my parents "cool" parties!
