Feliz Cinco de Mayo

Conversations with Ben as we ate our quesadillas and cervesas last night:

Today in school we celebrated this Italian holiday. [um - do you mean Mexican?]

[What did you do to celebrate?] We had chips and pretzels. Are pretzels Mexican?

Is bowing a very Mexican thing? Do they bow a lot in Mexico? [I think you're thinking of Japan]

[Do you remember why Cinco de Mayo is a special day in Mexico?] It seems to me they were fighting against the language of France.

I think that we've reached some deep cultural understanding here.
